Chairman Frank Selasie Cole (Abdallah) founded Keta Sandlanders FC in November 2002.

Between March and August 2003 the Sandlanders played a number of start-up friendly matches with results as follows:

Keta Sandlanders 0-1 Hearts of Lions (town: Kpando)
Keta Sandlanders 0-0 Home Stars (Ho)
Keta Sandlanders 0-1 Hearts of Oak (Accra)
Keta Sandlanders 2-0 Dabala Tongu Fruits (Dabala)
Keta Sandlanders 2-0 Akatsi FC
Keta Sandlanders 3-1 Aflao United
Keta Sandlanders 1-1 Ketu United (Kpando)
Keta Sandlanders 1-0 Great Baron (Ho)
Keta Sandlanders 4-0 Three Town Tigers (Denu)
Keta Sandlanders 1-0 Accra Selected Professionals

As outlined in Ghanaian Football in Profile Accra Hearts of Oak are perhaps Ghana’s most prestigious side and on the day that they visited Keta their only goal was scored by Laryea Kingston (now a Ghanaian international playing with Heart of Midlothian in Scotland). Another of our early opponents, Hearts of Lions finished fourth last year in the Ghanaian Premiership.

On the basis of friendly match results the Sandlanders were given an exemption from competing in the 3rd Division and went straight in to competition at Division 2 level.

Here their results were as follows:

05/10/03 Keta Sandlanders 0-0 Aflao Royals
12/10/03 Keta Sandlanders 1-0 Forest Sacrie (Klikor)
19/10/03 Keta Sandlanders 4-0 Three Town Tigers
26/10/03 Keta Sandlanders 2-1 Akatsi FC
02/11/03 Keta Sandlanders 6-2 Mighty Breakers
22/11/03 Keta Sandlanders 2-0 Mighty Breakers
30/11/03 Keta Sandlanders 2-0 Akatsi FC
07/12/03 Keta Sandlanders 3-0 Three Town Tigers
14/12/03 Keta Sandlanders 0-1 Forest Sacrie (Klikor)
21/12/03 Keta Sandlanders 1-2 Aflao Royals

After topping Division 2 with these results the Sandlanders advanced to the regional Middle League (a regional play-off and the step between Division 2 and Division 1). Just 1 victory away from Division 1 the Sandlanders suffered heart-wrenching defeat in a penalty shoot-out in the play-off final, a defeat that the club would take some time to recover from.

After time spent re-building however the Sandlanders are back and ready once more to take their game to a new level. We have a strong squad of old and new players and this time we are bringing a new approach to Ghanaian football which we hope will build a profile at home and abroad. We believe that members will be impressed by the standard of the game in Ghana as we set about unearthing tomorrow’s superstars.
